Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium (RGICS)- Hyderabad

The Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium (RGICS) has been on India’s list of international venues since 2004. Formerly called as ‘Uppal Stadium’ or ‘Visakha International Stadium’, the stadium was rechristened to its current name in memory of the former Indian Prime Minister and Congress President Sri. Rajiv Gandhi. Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium is managed and maintained by Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA). It is the home ground of Deccan Chargers.

Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium is stretched over 16 acres of land, the stadium has ample parking, exclusive practice area, reception lounge, commentators room, corporate boxes, spacious press room with all communications facility, exclusive room for umpires and state-of-the-art dressing rooms for teams. Flood lights mounted on Six towers, illuminate the stadium during day-night matches. The Grand reception hall of the RGICS houses several Memorabilia and picture galleries of crickets and cricket administrators whose significant contribution to HCA and the game of cricket cannot be forgotten.

The pitch and play area is managed by well experienced and knowledgeable curators and support staff. RGICS pitch is a true and lively pitch comparable to international standards. This is in sharp contrast to earlier piches at Hyderabad which has a reputation of being batsman friendly and high scoring.

Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium – New Delhi

One of the oldest cricket stadiums in India. Deriving its name from the Emperor of Delhi – Feroz Shah Tughlaq, who ruled from 1351 to 1388, Feroz Shah Kotla stadium was initially a fortress, built by the by the Emperor to house his version of Delhi city – Ferozabad. Established in 1883, the Feroz Shah Kotla – run by the politicised Delhi District Cricket Association (DDCA). Engulfed by fort like structures, the Feroz Shah Kotla has for long been India’s fortress in Test cricket. From the first Test match it hosted in 1948. It is the home ground of Delhi Daredevils.

Currently, the stadium is being managed and maintained by the Delhi District Cricket Association (DDCA) and has two ends namely TATA end and ITC end. Feroz Shah Kotla stadium underwent renovation and revamping in the later stages. The stadium was outfitted with latest amenities for successfully organizing an international cricket matches. Floodlights were even installed in the stadium, thereby making it one of the choicest venues for day-night matches as well.

M. Chinnaswamy Stadium – Bangalore

The M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore – named after Sri M.Chinnaswamy, the former BCCI president and a long-serving secretary of the Karnataka State Cricket Association – has been an international cricket venue since 1974. stadium is built on land owned by the army. M. Chinnaswamy Stadium is one of India’s regular Test cricket venues, the Chinnaswamy Stadium has also housed India’s National Cricket Academy since 2000. It is the home ground of Royal Challengers Bangalore.

M. Chinnaswamy Stadium is located right in the heart of Bengaluru, at a stone’s throw from the bustling M G Road, the stadium is both accessible and spectacular.

Mumbai, September 23, 2009:

Lalit Modi, Chairman, Airtel Champions League Twenty20 (ACLT20) today unveiled the Airtel Champions League Twenty20 Cup.

Airtel Champions League Twenty20 Trophy Designed by Carving Dreams and hand-sculpted by Creative Awards & Rewards. ACLT20 Trophy is made of precious metals, studded with 5.12 carat diamonds and precious gemstones. ACLT20 Trophy is 1.5 feet tall in height and weighs 6kg.

Airtel Champions League Twenty20 Trophy’s petals are studded with precious and semi-precious gemstones that hold an uplifted platinum ball with emerald green stitching set in green gemstones. The different coloured petals, holding the ball together, signify the diversity of the league of champions and the entire trophy is mounted on a mahogany-coloured, dark wooden base.

Manu Sawhney (Managing Director, ESPN STAR Sports), Simran Singh (Group Creative Head & COO – Carving Dreams), Dean Kino (Member of Airtel Champions League Twenty20 Governing Council) and others guests were present on the occasion.

12 teams participating in the Airtel Champions League Twenty20 (ACLT20) set to commence on 8th October, 2009 in Bengaluru.
