ICC Champions Trophy 2009

Match: England vs South Africa

Venue: Centurion, Tshwane, SA.

Man of the Match: Owais Shah

England have managed to pull off another surprise victory as they have beaten hosts, South Africa by 22 runs. The Proteas started strongly but lost Gibbs and Kallis in early in the innings. Graeme Smith led the way with his 141 off 134 balls and found good support from de Villiers and then Duminy through the middle overs. But England did well in the crunch stages of the death overs, picking up wickets at regular intervals and leaving South Africa too much to do in the end. James Anderson was the was England’s main man with three for 42 off his ten overs.

Owais Shah is adjudged Man of the Match for his efforts with the bat.

This defeat drops South Africa one place in the Reliance ICC Mobile ODI rankings to third behind India.

India will battle for survival in the ICC Champions Trophy when they take on Australia at Centurion tomorrow.

ICC Champions Trophy 2009

Match: England vs South Africa

Venue: Centurion, Tshwane, SA,

England have done extremely well to reach 323 for 8 at the end of their 50 overs. They pace was set by Strauss and Denly who got them off to a flier. But the major talking point of the match so far was the 163 run stand between Owais Shah and Paul Collingwood that set them up for a big finish much like Malik and Yousuf’s effort for Pakistan yesterday. That was followed by a brisk 67 off 34 balls which helped England get over the 320 run mark. This looks like a winning total but you can never count South Africa out with the big hitting batsmen they possess in their ranks. It should be a great second innings…

The crucial Group B tie between hosts, South Africa and England from Centurion in ICC Champions Trophy 2009. It’s a must win game for the hosts as a defeat here could seal their exit from the tournament. A win for South Africa would put them back at the top spot in the Reliance Mobile ICC ODI rankings but a defeat would drop them into third behind India. It should be a great encounter with much to play for teams.

ICC Champions Trophy 2009, of the fourth match in Group B between Sri Lanka and New Zealand at the New Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg.

A flying start and an equally good show in the slog overs have allowed New Zealand to get to 315-7. The platform was set by the openers McCullum and Ryder with a scintillating partnership of 125 runs. The duo also set the tournament record for most runs in the first 10 overs by knocking off 76 runs. Skipper Sangakkara was forced to delay the bowling Power Play. An injured Ryder was at his destructive best scoring 74 off just 58 deliveries with 10 fours and a six. ICC Champions Trophy, 2009.

Match: India vs Pakistan. Centurion, Tshwane

Result:Pakistan won by 54 runs

Pakistan have beaten India by 54 runs, having bowled them out for 248 in 44.5 overs. It was convincing victory in the end and with that Pakistan have two wins in their first two matches which almost guarantees them a semi final spot. India made a solid start despite losing Sachin Tendulkar early. Rahul Dravid batted responsibly and found good support from Gautam Gambhir and Suresh Raina. But MS Dhoni and Yusuf Pathan failed to chip in and from then on India were left chasing the game and could never catch up. Pakistan did well in the field, creating two run outs and holding on to their catches.

India slip to third place behind Australia in Group A. They also slip two places in the Reliance Mobile ICC ODI rankings to third with Australia moving to the top after their win against West Indies earlier today.

Shoaib Malik was the Man of the Match for his 128 off 126 balls which was the backbone of the Pakistan innings.

Shoaib Malik’s ton helped Pakistan set a 303-run target for India in their Champions Trophy match at Centurion.

Pakistan have managed a commanding first-innings total of 302-9, at the end of its 50 overs. After the Pakistani openers got the team off to a brisk start, the Indian bowlers pulled things back with some disciplined bowling in the middle-overs. But it was a record-breaking fourth-wicket national partnership between Shoaib Malik (128) and Mohammad Yousuf (87) that shifted the momentum back in favour of Pakistan. The duo put on 205 runs as Malik brought up a fine century. Pakistan lost their last 6 wickets for 31 runs in their effort to get to a challenging total, but they will be happy with what they’ve got. India will need something big, if they have to win this game.

A win for India in today’s match will keep them at the top spot of the Reliance Moblie ICC ODI Cricket Rankings.
